A signature item for From the Potting Shed!
It was while filming her TV Show “A Day in the Country ” way back when, that Elaine learned how to make a garland by machine (kind of like a sewing machine) with a top & bobbin thread.

This inspired her to figure out how to do it by hand. It is now the number one feature for weddings. A favourite item for the ceremony or best at the head-table. Tonight you will learn how to make a variety of ropings, swags and garlands.

You will make your own 10ft garland to take home. Check our Facebook page for an album dedicated to Garlands.

“How does she do it?!”
Alas! You have asked and we have answered!

For years Elaine has been asked about how she has collected, designed and staged the items in the interior and exterior of her home and business.

How does design become lifestyle? How does gardening tie into interior and exterior design? How can you apply these basic principles to all areas of your life, including your wardrobe?

After your pretty drive up our country laneway, you’ll be greeted on the front porch with an herb infused mimosa or tea.

Your day will include an in-depth tour of our French Peasant Gardens, where you can get all manner of questions answered. How can design be a lifestyle? Where do you begin?

Hear how the influence from Elaine’s former career in fashion has tied into her garden designs and can be applied to your own.

Learn how to use the elements of space, texture, art selection, colour combination and fabrication to create a timeless and magazine-worthy design.

For the first time ever, get a tour of her whole house – bedrooms and everything! She will share with you helpful hints on how to create warmth and a cozy, joyful atmosphere. Casual yet elegant.

You’ll be covering a lot before lunch!
– How to use small-medium-large spaces
– How to create vignettes (placements of art and antiques)
– Preparing your home and garden for entertaining
– Creating an outdoor living space
– Staples for that timeless fashion wardrobe
– Creating a home that reflects your personality

For lunch, Cleve the chef will prepare for you a garden-to-table inspired menu, with herbs picked from our very own. He’ll share tips on culinary presentation.

After lunch, you will be creating a foraged wreath! Why? One of the best-kept secrets on using Design as Lifestyle is texture, and what better way to apply your skills!
